What type of guitar/sound vamp do i need to play master of puppets?

I can play master of puppets, well sorta, im not as fast. But anyways when i play it, it doesnt sound like master of puppets really. Maybe is it because i play it clean? Do i need lots of distortion for it to sound good? Especially when i play the low E string its really dull. And also i have a Fender strat Starcaster, would a Flying V guitar be better to play master of puppets on?
