Does a out of date pport count as valid I.D ?

I am 18 and as I do not drive I use my pport as I.D but I don't like taking my in date pport to clubs and bars as I am worried it could get stolen. And until recently my out of date pport always worked as it is only out of date by a month. but recently it has been rejected in a few places but works everywhere else. so I would like to know whether I can legally use my out of date pport can any bartenders, bouncers or police help me?
